x402

Per-call micropayment protocol (HTTP 402) for APIs and data. Not a cart checkout.

What it is. A server quotes a price with HTTP 402; the client pays and retries the same request. No cart, no checkout page. Source: research/x402.md (333 rows, snapshot 2026-10-03, last reviewed 2026-10-15).

Who maintains it. Coinbase (CDP) publishes the protocol and a reference facilitator. Open governance via the x402 Foundation / Linux Foundation.

What it is not. Closest to MPP (both charge per request). Distinct from AP2 and ACP, which authorize purchases.

Note. Price and network only when the table has them. An em dash means omitted.

Price, network, and status only when the table has them. Compare rails: x402 vs AP2 vs ACP vs MPP · PAP. Full directory (Spanish): /x402/.
